N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride (TMPD) is an oxidizable compound that serves as a reducing co-substrate for heme peroxidases. It is also used as a test reagent in microbiology for the classification of cytochrome oxidase positive aerobic microorganisms. It finds application as a detection of peroxidases on polyacrylamide gels.

Applications
Le dichlorhydrate de N,N,N′,N′-tétraméthyl-p-phénylènediamine (TMPD) est un composé oxydable qui sert de co-substrat réducteur pour les peroxydases de l’hème. Il est également utilisé comme réactif de test en microbiologie pour la classification des microorganismes aérobies positifs de la cytochrome oxydase. Il trouve son application dans la détection des peroxydases sur les gels de polyacrylamide.

Solubilité
Soluble dans le diméthylsulfoxyde, l’eau et la solution saline tamponnée au phosphate à pH 7,2.

Remarques
Sensible à la lumière. Incompatible avec les agents oxydants forts.
