Description

tert-Butyl alcohol is used as a solvent and ethanol denaturant. It is an active ingredient of paint remover. It acts as an intermediate in the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether and ethyl tertiary butyl ether by reaction with methanol and ethanol. It is also used in the preparation of tert-butyl chloride, tert-butyl hydroperoxide, isobutylene and methyl methacrylate. It serves as a fuel additive as well as a gasoline octane booster.

Applications
L’alcool tert-butylique est utilisé comme solvant et comme dénaturant à l’éthanol. Il s’agit d’un ingrédient actif des décapants de peinture. Il agit comme intermédiaire dans la production d’éther méthyl tertiobutylique et d’éther éthyl tertiobutylique par réaction avec le méthanol et l’éthanol. Il est également utilisé dans la préparation du chlorure de tert-butyle, de l’hydroperoxyde de tert-butyle, de l’isobutylène et du méthacrylate de méthyle. Il sert d’additif de carburant ainsi que d’optimisateur d’octane d’essence.

Solubilité
Miscible à l’eau, l’éthanol, l’éther éthylique et au chloroforme.

Remarques
Incompatible avec les agents oxydants forts, le cuivre, les métaux alcalins et l’aluminium.
