Description

Ninhydrin is used for the determination of amino groups in amino acids, peptides and proteins. It finds application in forensic science for the analysis of latent fingerprints on porous surfaces such as paper. It is also used in thin layer chromatography (TLC) to monitor the progress of chemical reactions. In Kaiser test, it plays an important role to monitor the deprotection in solid phase peptide synthesis.

Applications
La ninhydrine est utilisée pour la détermination des groupes aminés dans les acides aminés, les peptides et les protéines. Elle est utilisée en sciences médico-légales pour l’analyse des empreintes latentes sur des surfaces poreuses telles que le papier. Elle est également utilisée dans la chromatographie sur couche mince (CCM) pour surveiller l’évolution des réactions chimiques. Dans le test de Kaiser, elle joue un rôle important pour surveiller la déprotection dans la synthèse des peptides en phase solide.

Solubilité
Soluble dans l’eau, l’acétone, l’éthanol et le méthanol. Légèrement soluble dans le chloroforme et l’éther.

Remarques
Sensible à la lumière. Incompatible avec les agents oxydants forts, les amines, les alcalis et les bases fortes.
