La TGF bêta-1 est un membre polypeptide de la superfamille de facteur de croissance transformant de cytokines, présent presque partout dans les tissus. Le facteur de croissance transformant (TGF)-b est stocké dans la matrice extracellulaire comme un complexe latent avec son prodomaine. L’activation de TGF-b1 nécessite la liaison de l’intégrine aV à une séquence RGD dans le prodomaine et l’action de la force sur ce domaine, qui est maintenue dans la matrice extracellulaire par des protéines de liaison TGF-b latentes. Les formes latentes sont des complexes de TGF-bêta, une portion aminoterminale du précurseur de TGF-bêta, du TGF-LAP désigné (peptide associé à la latence TGF) et d’une protéine de liaison spécifique connue sous le nom de LTBP.
