Description

Methyltrichlorosilane is used in production of methyl silicone resins, its vapor reacts with water on surfaces to give a thin layer of methylpolysiloxane which make it a water-repellent film. A combination of methyltrichlorosilane and sodium iodide can be used to cleave carbon-oxygen bonds such as methyl ethers. It is used as a precursor for forming various cross-linked siloxane polymers. Trichloromethylsilane is the starting material for the production of pure silicon for manufacture of semiconductors and optical fibers.

Applications
Le méthyltrichlorosilane est utilisé dans la production de résines méthylsiliconesa et sa vapeur réagit avec l’eau à la surface pour créer une fine couche de méthylpolysiloxane qui en fait un film hydrofuge. L’association entre le méthyltrichlorosilane et l’iodure de sodium peut être utilisée pour cliver les liaisons carbone-oxygène de la même manière que les éthers méthyliques. Il est utilisé comme précurseur pour la formation de divers polymères de siloxane réticulés. Le trichlorométhylsilane est la matière de base pour la production de silicium pur destiné à la fabrication de matériaux semi-conducteurs et de fibres optiques.
