Description
MES is used as a running buffer for resolving very small proteins (ex: 13 kDa) on bis-tris gels. Also used in cation-exchange chromatography and as a biological buffer in plant cell cultures. Used in various protein characterization assays. MES is also useful as a non-coordinating buffer in chemistry involving metal ions, as many common buffers (e.g. phosphate and acetate) readily form coordination complexes. MES only weakly binds Ca, Mg, Mn, and it has negligible binding with Cu(II).

Le MES est utilisé comme tampon de charge pour résoudre de très petites protéines (p. ex : 13 kDa) sur gels Bis-Tris. Également utilisé dans la chromatographie échangeuse de cations et en tant que tampon biologique dans les cultures de cellules végétales. Utilisé dans divers dosages de caractérisation des protéines. MES est également utile comme tampon non-coordinateur en chimie impliquant des ions métalliques, car de nombreux tampons courants (p. ex. les phosphates et acétates) forment facilement des complexes de coordination. Le MES ne se lie que faiblement aux Ca, Mg, Mn et il se lie de façon négligeable au Cu(II).
