Benzenesulfonyl chloride reacts with Grignard reagents to form oxindoles from N-unsubstituted indoles. It is widely used to check the assay of thiamine in different food products. It is involved in the synthesis of alpha-disulfones, sulfonamides and sulfoante esters as precursor. It is a derivatization reagent for the determination of various amines in waste water and surface water at the sub-ppb level by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. It is common reagent used in Hinsberg test for detection and distinguishing the type of amines as primary, secondary and tertiary amines.

Applications
Le chlorure de benzènesulfonyle réagit avec les réactifs de Grignard pour former des oxindoles à partir d’indoles non substitués en N. Il est largement utilisé pour vérifier le dosage de la thiamine dans différents produits alimentaires. Il est impliqué dans la synthèse des alpha-disulfones, des sulfonamides et des esters de sulfoante en tant que précurseur. Il s’agit d’un réactif de dérivation pour la détermination de diverses amines dans les eaux usées et les eaux de surface au niveau des sous-ppb par chromatographie en phase gazeuse et spectrométrie de masse. Il s’agit d’un réactif commun utilisé dans le test d’Hinsberg pour la détection et la distinction du type d’amines en tant qu’amines primaires, secondaires et tertiaires.

Solubilité
Insoluble dans l’eau. Soluble dans l’éther et l’alcool.

Remarques
Sensible à l’humidité. Incompatible avec l’eau, les agents oxydants forts, les bases fortes, le formamide méthylique et le diméthylsulfoxyde.
